REFLECTION
Experience
Overall for this semester and this module, my experience was a start of a new beginning. Sounds cliche but it is true. I was an amateur from the start and probably still am now, though I at least want to be good in this field, and I can't seem to achieve that goal without having someone to properly guide me. It was hard for the most part to find some proper guidance into creating and designing in this class, it might be for the better as others work well under pressure. It did for me, just a tad bit. I could say all the works I've done seemed mediocre, but I'm still proud of them. Creating something new in an unfamiliar field brings excitement from me as a beginner.
Observations
During my observations, I've learned the histories and basic knowledge of typography, from where it came from and how it changed over time and to what it became now. I've learned how every stroke into creating and designing a character/letterforms was done on purpose, some are symmetrical and most are not. During task 1 or text formatting and task 2, I grasped the concept that typography deals with precision and accuracy, therefore I had to have a good eye when adjusting and creating appealing layouts and formats. And in just one semester, which is still so foreign and new to me, I made it work. In just three tasks, I manage to create all of them in one semester.
Findings
Lastly, I've gained some basic skills on typography, such as kerning, tracking, and dealing with hierarchy and contrast, and having a creative and observant eye to make fonts, formats, and layouts visually appealing, although mine is still lacking in some areas. It was also the first time I learned the difference between a serif and a sans serif, pretty diabolical of me. I also learned how to manage and use Adobe softwares and FontLab, though using Illustrator was sometimes a nightmare to deal with, the others (InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat) are pretty useful in dealing with typography. Although I didn't expect to gain so much from this class, it is fortunate that it will follow me and help me in my future into making designs more appealing and natural.
