Week 2:
For this week, we were briefed with the module and its six different projects, which we then are required to choose one project for this module. We then collectively chose Project 6: New Food New Life (Cocokami). After that, we had to conduct research on its company WellB and brand Cocokami.
Week 3:
For this week, we then had a meeting with our client, YouLe, founder of Cocokami, where she introduces her brand and company, and gave additional insights and information. We then had the opportunity to taste Cocokami's products as a group given by Ms. YouLe.
After the meeting was done, our group starts to discuss and brainstorm our ideas collectively to try and come up with any innovations for our client and their needs. Below are the notes collected from the client meeting.
We then agreed with the idea of Brand Repositioning, helping Cocokami to shift their brand into a health benefit for a healthy lifestyle. This was inspired from their past work of coconut consumption during the covid pandemic, which this repositioning is helping bring awareness of but removing the association with the pandemic. This repositioning goal is also to promote the health benefits of coconut products.
Week 4:
For this week we had to conduct interviews and create our user personas based on our data collected. Which it will then help us to come up with our ideations that benefits to a specific group or minority. Our group is then divided into two units after we discussed having a potential of two user personas, which are food product and sports product. We create questions that relates to coconut products for the separated interviews after.
After our consultation with Dr. Wong, which she suggests we choose only one specific persona, we then choose our persona to be vegans, as coconut is a plant-based product that aims for health benefits and our target audience are health-conscious individuals.
Below are the two units and its group members and the interview questions:
Food product (vegan): Ashley, Madeline, Jia Xuan, Asma'
Sport product: Wai Xian, Valerius, Jensen
Week 5:
For this week, we then proceed on conducting our interviews after we finalized our interview questions after Dr. Wong has reviewed it, saying it needs to be more natural and go with the flow. We then searched for people that falls under our target audience to conduct our interview. Below is the finalized version of our interview questions.
We then had 7 interviews in total, with four people under sports and three people under vegans. We then transcribe our interviews to summarize and analyze and point down all the key words that are important and necessary to our findings, which then can help with our affinity diagram. We then uploaded the necessary documents and audio in the google drive.
Week 6:
For this week, we then sorted and organized our affinity diagrams by placing our key findings and necessary key words into each categories so that we can have a better result finding. We also use the empathy map to further understand our users in a more visual graphic.
I was also then in charged of creating our user personas into two, so that we can also further understand and summarize their needs and pain points.
Week 7-8:
We then had to come up with our problem statement and our HMW questions based on our findings.
After that, we were then taught about using the Crazy8 method to come up with ideas and innovations during class. This methods helps us to come up with a variety of ideas in a short span of time, some didn't make any sense but many had some kind of connections. Below is the compilation of all of our Crazy8. Using the scamper method, we also came up with other possible innovations and ideas for our target users.
After we finalized our ideas, we then sketch out our chosen ideas as a pre-mockup design sketches. Which falls under four different products, two for each category:
Sport:
- Coconut Isotonic Drink
- Contains coconut water as based ingredient as it is already a natural isotonic drink
- Coconut Energy Gel
- Contains coconut water as based ingredient, less sticky and synthesize
Vegan:
- Coconut Snack Bar
- Contains coconut meat as based ingredient, bounded by maple syrup, and contains nuts, seeds, and chocolate
- Toasted Coconut Flakes
- Contains coconut oil as based ingredient, flakes mixed with maple syrup and baked into oven
Week 9: Presentation!!
Week 10:
After receiving feedback from Dr. Wong and Ms. YouLe on our presentation, we then discussed our final ideation and direction. Therefore, we then agreed to focus on the sports persona only from this point on. We then discussed how we will develop the two ideation for sports and expand it to COCOKAMI PLUS. This then brings a much more niche direction for the sports, athletes, and fitness minority or group.
Our main focus and project direction will be on:
- Logo Expansion: Shifting the brand to another identity for the audience to recognize from Cocokami to as COCOKAMI PLUS for sports and fitness.
- Packaging Design: Design the packaging to be more aligned with sports theme and aesthetic.
- Website: Create a website to showcase COCOKAMI PLUS products and its purpose.
- Digital Media Presence: Social media page for promotional content and awareness on the sports direction of COCOKAMI PLUS as a way to approach our target audiences.
For this week, we then went on to go with our user testing on our physical products, as well as some final adjustments based on the feedback given by Dr. Wong. The UI/UX team and Ashley came up with two different methods of approaching the user testing:

This module has taught me a lot when approaching a client as a design student. It was also a grateful experience to have our client having a design background and experience as well, which eventually helped us a lot throughout this module as she gives us feedback on our design approach. She also gave many insights, critiques, and suggestions based on our experience and design proposal. It was a challenge that I somehow cannot overcome in the span of 14 weeks as I tend to become nervous when presenting, thus I do feel quite guilty when I drag my team members down a bit. And although they had reassured me that is was fine, I still felt like I let them down. Aside from that, I realized that the process from this group project went overall pretty smooth, it was fun throughout the process, coming up with ideas, collaborating, and experiencing the same thing was kind of new for me. With that in mind, I noticed when seeing the other groups' work and presentation, has inspired me with their own creativity, I tend to love others work as it was new and completely different from ours. I felt like it was a safe environment for me as an artist and design student, being in a niche environment filled with creativity was actually quite pleasant. Which was totally surprising that it didn't lean towards competitiveness, and I'm really glad for that. Overall, this module was really an experience that I'm really grateful for as I gained more knowledge on how to apply design thinking into a project, how to handle a design group project, and my personal experience as an individual.
